Our Story

You have probably seen the Silent-Yacht’s 60ft solar electric catamaran. You very likely wanted to buy one until you found out how much they cost. So now you are here after figuring out just $140k in equipment can turn really any powerboat in the 54-90ft range into a solar electric hybrid yacht. It sure beats paying the $3.6MM for a Silent 60.

Hi, I’m Cpt. Jack Taylor and I’ve done a lot of living on powerboats and sailboats. Never slept anywhere better than floating on water. If you’re interested in solar conversions of older powerboats, chances are you’re a liveaboard too. The nice thing about a powerboat is you have a whole lot more room onboard than you do on a sailboat. Making them more comfortable homes on water. Which is why its ideal to do full solar electric conversions with them.

If you are anything like me you’ve tried doing some blue water cruising on a sailboat. Mastering sailing is just one of those things anyone serious about life on the water has to do. And well, if you’ve been there, then you’ve lived thru days where the winds are near impossible or non-existent to deal with then you know where I’m coming from. The wind isn’t always reliable, any sailor knows this. What’s more is the annoyance of tacking with the wind. Add to that travel restrictions via the Trade Winds in seasonal conditions only allowing logical travel by sail certain times of the year only. Then leaning to one side for hours at a time, living life like a crooked sailor isn’t all its cut out to be especially if you enjoy comfy carefree style yachting!

All of that really annoyed me, so when I found out about Silent Yachts, I immediately saw how incredible of a yacht concept it was. What I didn’t like was the price tag. So I started doing research on their build cost and just how exactly solar electric yachts work. All their core systems. What I found out is they are not nearly as expensive as I thought they were to get together.

In my research phase on how to convert a old powerboat into a solar electric hybrid yacht – I looked for a consultant on the subject to help me quickly get together parts lists, install guides, prices, etc – but to no avail as no one was offering the service online anywhere. So I decided to build a business around the exact kind of service I was looking for when I first decided I wanted to do a solar conversion. So here the business is now and I’m an expert on the subject of solar yacht conversions of older model powerboats because its a major engineering problem and I am a textbook INTJ-A personality type!

I really look forward to helping as many people as I can convert their powerboats into blue water cruisers running off unlimited solar energy and clean electric engines because this is truly the future of yachting!
